Pop-Up Seasonal Beer Garden

Pop-Up Seasonal Beer Garden

Third Place Proof of Concept

Client: Wexford Science + Technology
Project Partners: Our People Enterntainment & MilkBoy Philadelphia
Scope: Project Management, Activation, & Community Engagement
Location: West Philadelphia

An industrially designed green space, located in an innovation hub with offices, higher education institutions, and labs, is incomplete without people. By introducing events and seasonal programs* the idea of adding a temporary beer garden to The Lawn would enhance its role as a community gathering place…or third place.

The Lawn at uCity Square

Tabb Management enlisted Our People Entertainment to lead the design and fabrication of the conversion of a shipping container into a bar and park space into a beer garden. Drawing inspiration from the neighborhood’s history of activism and local art, the design incorporated elements from West Philadelphia’s Victorian row home architecture and porch culture.

Tabb Management contacted HopePHL, a neighboring institution and former client, to collaborate on the temporary use and installation of the digital mural “Linked” (Oluwafemi, 2019) for the front and back of the bar. Maintaining the presence of this public artwork in the neighborhood was a crucial consideration, especially since the original location of the mural is undergoing development two blocks from The Lawn.

Throughout the uCity Square Beer Garden’s opening season in Fall 2023, Tabb Management coordinated programming to attract customers, community members, and event goers to The Lawn. The bar was operated by MilkBoy Philly, while Our People maintained the beer garden. This project’s success relied heavily on the collaboration of project partners to ensure the satisfaction, excitement, and harmonization of people, space, and place.

Testimonial

Wexford Science + Technology
  • Tabb Management has been an excellent resource for Wexford as an event planner, manager and executer. As a small business, we can’t do everything in-house so we often need expert resources to supplement our capacity. Latiaynna is hardworking, organized, and assertive and has grown her team over the years to support events of all shapes and sizes. She has a passion for working with the local community across her work from procuring local vendors, promoting events to neighborhood groups, and finding creative partnerships with individual residents or mission-aligned non-profits. I would highly recommend Tabb!
